Maintaining the VACDRILL
The pad is a consumable. Treat it like one.

The sealing pad
- Wipe after use. Inspect for cuts, embedded grit and hardening.
- Store so the pad is not compressed or resting on debris.
- Replace when it stops conforming — a hardened pad is the commonest cause of gradually worsening grip.
Vacuum path
Keep the pump inlet and any filter clear. Vacuum performance falls quietly as a filter loads.
Batteries
Store part-charged in moderate temperature. Avoid leaving packs flat or in a hot vehicle.
Keep contacts clean and dry.
Bits and chuck
Clean and lightly grease SDS shanks per the manufacturer's instructions.
Retire worn carbide rather than persevering with it.
Before each shift
Attach to a known-good surface and confirm the pump settles. It is a ten-second confidence check on the whole vacuum system.
Questions about this
What is the most important maintenance item?
The sealing pad. It is a genuine consumable and its decline is gradual enough to go unnoticed until attachment quality has already dropped.
Is there a quick daily check?
Attach to a known-good surface and confirm the pump settles. That single test exercises the pump, the vacuum path and the pad together.
