The GRABO VACDRILL
A standalone hands-free cordless drilling system for penetrating a variety of surfaces. Powered suction and an SDS rotary hammer in one machine.
What it is
The VACDRILL combines three things that are normally separate: a vacuum anchor, a feed mechanism, and a rotary hammer. The base contains an electric pump and a sealing pad. The column carries the drill. The drill itself is a standard SDS rotary hammer, so it accepts the bits you already own — up to 40 mm in diameter and 200 mm long.
The four things that make it different
1. It holds itself
Up to 45 kgf of holding force when attached to non-porous surfaces at 0.8 bar. That is enough to resist the reaction force of hammer drilling and to hold the machine's own weight on a vertical or overhead surface. Read how vacuum anchoring works.
2. It drives itself
The hammer advances along a guide column rather than being pushed by hand. Feed is smooth and the axis is fixed, so the hole is straight. See the feed mechanism.
3. It stops where you tell it
A drill depth sensor lets you set the depth and have the machine stop there — a genuine difference when you are setting anchors to a specified embedment. See the depth sensor.
4. It captures its own dust
A dust collection port takes an extractor hose and captures debris at the hole. See dust collection.
