VACDRILL vs an anchored core drill rig
Different diameters, different anchoring philosophies.
What a core rig does
Diamond core rigs cut large holes — typically well beyond 40 mm — and are usually anchored by bolting the base to the substrate, which itself requires a drilled anchor hole.
They are the right answer for penetrations, not for fixings.
The irony worth noting
A bolted core rig needs a hole before it can make a hole. Vacuum anchoring removes that step, which is why vacuum bases exist for coring too — see Bore Mount QC2.
Choosing by diameter
Up to 40 mm for fixings and anchors: VACDRILL.
Larger penetrations for services: a dedicated core rig, vacuum- or bolt-anchored.
Water
Wet coring introduces slurry management, which interacts badly with vacuum sealing. Plan the attachment position accordingly.
Questions about this
Can this replace a core rig?
No. It is a fixing-hole tool limited to 40 mm bits. Large service penetrations need a diamond core rig.
Why do core rigs use vacuum bases too?
Because the alternative is bolting the base down, which requires drilling an anchor hole first — and leaves a hole behind when you remove it.
